What Are Evergreen Herbs?
Author: Sophie.P.
There are plants that stay green through the year, even when there is snow. These herbs are naturally called evergreen. Like evergreen forests that are made up of pine trees that do not lose leaves, evergreen herbs are loved by gardeners because they do not require replanting.
In addition, evergreen herbs have a lot of healthy characteristics in them that can help you when you take them as supplements. The most common evergreen herbs are curry, sage, rosemary and lavender.
Curry Plant: The curry plant produces an oil that is often used for medicinal reasons because it is anti-inflammatory, fungicidal and astringent, thereby soothing burns and chapped skin.
Sage: The name salvia, which is where the word sage comes from, means to heal. It has even been found to help manage mild to moderate Alzheimer’s Disease.
Rosemary: Rosemary has been found to help shield the brain from free radicals, which means it can be used to deal with Alzheimer’s and Lou Gehrig’s Disease. It also has a high level of anti-oxidants in it, which prevents cancer.
Lavender: Lavender has several medicinal qualities and is often used because of its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. In fact, during World War One, hospitals disinfected floors and walls with it.
