Fiber-Plex™, provided by Douglas Laboratories®, is aconvenient dietary supplement designed to provide aunique combination of all major classes of naturallyoccurring dietary fiber. Fiber-Plex capsules supply abalance of soluble and insoluble, as well asfermentable and non-fermentable dietary fiber.

Health Functions:
ary fiber is defined as complex carbohydratesthat are resistant to the action of digestive enzymes,and therefore pass through the intestinal tract,unabsorbed. Dietary fiber includes substances suchas cellulose, hemicellulose (xylans, galactans andmannans), pectins, gums, and lignin.

Dietary fiber has many nutritional benefits for thehealth of the gastrointestinal tract. Insoluble dietaryfiber, such as cellulose and many hemicelluloses, arenot efficiently fermented in the colon. As a result,they provide fecal bulk, bind water, and help softenstools. Soluble dietary fiber, such as pectin, manygums, and some hemicelluloses, are fermented in thecolon to varying degrees. This results in lowercolonic pH (acidity) and the production of short chainfatty acids, which are important for the intestinalmicroflora and the health of the mucosal cells. Shortchain fatty acids also have a role in facilitatingcolonic water absorption.

Many insoluble and soluble fiber types bind dietarycholesterol and bile acids in the intestine, andtherefore play an important nutritional role in theenterohepatic circulation of cholesterol andcholesterol metabolism in general.Most types of dietary fiber, when hydrated,contribute substantially to the volume of stomachcontents and help provide a feeling of fullness.Fiber-Plex was formulated to take advantage of all ofthe physiological benefits of fiber by combining awide variety of insoluble, non-fermentable andsoluble, fermentable natural fiber sources.Glucomannan is a partially fermentable, soluble fiberextracted from the konjac root (yam family). Thishemicellulose fiber is noted for its high water-bindingcapacity, and may have a beneficial role incholesterol metabolism. Carrot and celery powdersprovide a rich array of soluble and insoluble dietaryfibers, including cellulose, hemicellulose, pectin andlignin. Sodium alginate is a soluble partiallyfermentable fiber derived from seaweed. Pectin is asoluble dietary fiber noted for its ability to providebeneficial short chain fatty acids for the colon. Fiber-Plex provides both types of naturally occurringpectins: high- and low-methoxyl pectins. Slipperyelm powder supplies a number of gums andmucilages that are important for the mucous lining ofthe gastrointestinal tract.

Provides approximately 235 mg of total dietaryfiber from the following sources:

Glucomannan, Citrus Pectin (high-methoxyl), Carrot Powder, Apple Pectin (low-methoxyl), Celery Powder, Slippery Elm Powder, Sodium Alginate.


Servings:
One to two capsules, one to three times daily as adietary supplement, or as directed by physician.Take with plenty of liquids during meals. Capsulesmay also be opened and contents stirred intobeverages or foods.
