Description: Phosphatidylcholine, or PC, is a polar lipid molecule that is anaturally occurring, integral component of the cellularmembrane, adding fluidity and strength to cells. PC serves asa source of choline, an important nutrient for liver functionand a precursor of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Dietarysources of PC include soy lecithin.Pure Encapsulations Phosphatidylcholine is derived fromsoy lecithin, a source that is rich in polyunsaturated fattyacids, as opposed to animal-derived sources, which tendto be much higher in saturated fatty acids. There is nodetectable GMO material in this product. Health Functions: Liver Health: In a multi-centered, randomized, doubleblind, placebo-controlled trial conducted in Germany, investigators reported that polyunsaturated PC helpedsupport liver health by promoting healthy plasma alanineaminotransferase activity and was well tolerated. This moleculealso plays a significant role in the healthy transport andmetabolism of lipids and lipid carrier molecules. Arandomized, double blind, placebo-controlled trialsuggested that oral lecithin supplementation may helpsupport healthy hepatic fat metabolism by providing asource of choline. Animal studies also report that soybeanPC may promote healthy lipid metabolism in theliver. Additional animal studies indicate that PC promoteshealthy liver and pancreatic antioxidant activity.Cognitive Support: PC has been studied in the context ofcognitive support and moderating stress. A long-termdouble blind placebo-controlled trial suggested that highdose soy lecithin may reduce mild memory loss associatedwith aging. A more recent animal study provided dataindicating that oral lecithin supplementation helpedsupport plasma choline levels, which was linked to anadaptogenic effect when the animals were exposed tovarious stresses.
