Description:
Targeted to sooth and restore tissue in the stomach and intestinal tract, Mastic Gum/DGL delivers its extract (de-glycyrrhizinated licorice) in a pleasant tasting, cinnamon-flavored chewable wafer.

Mastic gum (pistacia lentiscus) has a long history of traditional use in Mediterranean and Arabic countries. The name mastic is derived from the word masticate (to chew). Its use for gastrointestinal tract health was first recorded in 1248. Clinical and in vitro evidence suggest that mastic gum is beneficial for soothing and reducing ulcerations in the duodenum. In one study, 70% of subjects consuming 1 gram of mastic gum daily showed statistically significant evidence of restored tissue, and 80% reported soothing benefit. There is also clinical evidence that mastic gum may reduce dental plaque.

Licorice also has a long history of traditional use throughout Europe and Asia, dating back to Egyptian times. Few clinical trials have been conducted, but licorice remains widely used and revered for its ability to sooth the stomach lining and gastrointestinal tract. Complementary Prescriptions™ uses DGL (De-Glycyrrhizinated Licorice). DGL extract, from which glycyrrhizic acid is removed, is the preferred form. The rare concerns associated with high intake of licorice and healthy blood pressure levels are attributed to glycyrrhizic acid. DGL has not been associated with these concerns.

Mastic Gum/DGL provides 150 mg mastic gum and 300 mg of DGL in each two-wafer serving. Best when taken on an empty stomach prior to meals and away from other medications. Consume as needed, up to 3 servings per day.
