A new study has shown that chocolate can be beneficial to the one in five people who suffer from metabolic syndrome, a condition that can increase your risk for Type II diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) also did a study in Paris that showed that chocolate is good for the heart and the brain.
In the ESC study, the individuals who ate the most chocolate had a 37% lower risk of developing cardiovascular disease and 29% lower risk of having a stroke, compared to those who consumed the least chocolate. Dr. Adriana Buitrago-Lopez of the University of Cambridge, UK, stated: “Although overconsumption can have harmful effects, the existing studies generally agree on a potential beneficial association of chocolate consumption with a lower risk of cardiometabolic disorders. Our findings confirm this, and we found that higher levels of chocolate consumption might be associated with a one-third reduction in the risk of developing cardiovascular disease.”
So feel free to let your kids indulge in a little extra chocolate. And, if they have a lot, you should feel free to help yourself to a little of their loot, too.
